Custom Orthotics: Personalized Support That Works With Your Whole Body

Foot pain, knee strain, hip tightness, even low-back discomfort can start with how your feet meet the ground. When off-loading or alignment cues aren’t enough, custom orthotics can provide targeted support so the rest of your body can move more comfortably. I use orthotics as a tool—paired with hands-on care and right-sized exercises—to help you do more with less pain.

My Approach

  • Whole-body assessment: I look at gait, posture, ankle mobility, hip control, and how your feet load when you stand and walk.
  • Targeted support—not “more is better”: The goal is gentle guidance, not a rigid brace. We fine-tune as your strength and mobility improve.
  • Hands-on + movement: Orthotics work best alongside manual therapy and a simple program to improve calf, hip, and foot control.

Who May Benefit

  • Plantar heel pain/plantar fascia irritation
  • Metatarsalgia, bunion discomfort, Morton’s neuroma
  • Posterior tibial tendon strain/flat-foot collapse
  • Knee overload (patellofemoral pain, early knee OA)
  • Shin splints and overuse with running/walking

What to Expect During a Fitting

  1. Listen & map: We review your history, footwear, activity goals, and where symptoms show up.
  2. Movement screen: Standing alignment, single-leg balance, ankle/hip mobility, and gait mechanics.
  3. Foot loading review: Manual assessment of the arch, rearfoot/forefoot alignment, and pressure patterns (with pressure mapping when helpful).
  4. Impression or digital capture: Foam box, plaster, or 3-D/pressure scan based on your needs.
  5. Initial fitting & education: We place the orthotics in your shoes, check comfort and alignment, and set a break-in plan.

Break-In Schedule (Typical)

  • Days 1–3: 1–2 hours/day for easy activities
  • Days 4–7: 3–4 hours/day if comfortable
  • Week 2: Progress toward most of the day; add light exercise if tolerated

Note: Mild awareness is normal. If pain or hot spots occur, stop and contact me—we’ll adjust posting, arch height, or top cover.

Footwear & Follow-Up

We’ll pair your orthotics with shoes that suit your foot shape and activity. Many people benefit from a “daily pair” and an “athletic pair.” I like to re-check after 2–3 weeks to fine-tune comfort and make sure your exercises are supporting the changes.

Ready for a Comfortable Step Forward?

Custom orthotics are most effective when they’re part of a whole-body plan. If you’re ready for an evaluation and fitting, I’m here to help.
